To open a first account with Épargne Placements Québec, using our online services is safe and simple.

You must be a Québec resident and have your social insurance number on hand.

Becoming a participant – Individual

Minors

To open an account for a minor child, the parent must call 1 800 463-5229.

The child’s social security number will be required during the call. Make sure you have it on hand.

Businesses, organizations and other customers

The following customers, residing in Québec, can also open an account:

Follow these steps to open your account:

Fill in the required forms

You must save the required forms on your computer and then fill them in.

Prepare supporting documents

Depending on your situation, you may need to provide supporting documents with your application to open an account.

Submit the documents

Once the forms have been filled in and the other documents are ready, you can send us your application to open an account.

A personalized cheque specimen in the name of the fabrique or religious community, marked “Void”

A trust

You must submit:

The Open an Investment Savings Account form
The Designation of Representatives form
- Complete this form if you wish to have more than one representative.
A personalized cheque specimen in the name of the trust, marked “Void”

Depending on your situation, please also submit:

a trust deed; or
all of the following documents:
- Proof of death, such as a copy of the death certificate, attestation of death, death certificate issued by the Directeur de l’état civil or attestation of death issued by the funeral home
- The will
- Two certificates of search for wills issued by the Chambre des notaires du Québec and the Barreau du Québec
- Any other relevant document, if required by your situation (for example, if a modification has been made to the will, please attach the codicil)

A mandatary

You must submit:

One of the following forms, depending on the type of account you wish to open:
- The Open an Investment Savings Account form
- The Open a TFSA form
- The Open a FHSA form
- The Open a LIRA form
- The Open an RRIF Account form
- The Open a LIF Account form
- The Open an RRSP Account form
The Designation of Representatives form
- Complete this form if you wish to have more than one representative.
A personalized cheque specimen in the name of the participant (principal), marked “Void”
A mandate in case of incapacity
A court judgment approving the mandate
Proof of death or renunciation of first mandatary (if required, depending on your situation)

An estate

Important

To settle an estate, the executor must follow the steps set out on the Successions page.

Opening an estate account is only required in certain cases. It does not replace the estate settlement process.

You must submit:

The Open an Investment Savings Account form
The Designation of Representatives form
- Complete this form if you wish to have more than one representative.
A personalized cheque specimen in the name of the estate, marked “Void”
Proof of death, such as a copy of the death certificate, attestation of death, death certificate issued by the Directeur de l’état civil or attestation of death issued by the funeral home
The will
Two certificates of search for wills issued by the Chambre des notaires du Québec and the Barreau du Québec

A guardian

Guardian for a Security Investment

This type of account is reserved for legal guardians registered with the Curateur public du Québec who meet the eligibility criteria. For more details, see The Security Investment page.

For a Security Investment, you must transmit:

The Open an Investment Savings Account form
The Designation of Representatives form
- Complete this form if you wish to have more than one representative.
A personalized cheque specimen in the name of the participant, marked “Void”
The name of your private representation officer and your file number assigned by the Curateur public

Guardian of the property of a minor or a person of full age

In the case of guardianship of the property of a minor or a person of full age, you must submit:

The court judgment

Transmit documents for opening account

After submitting your documents

You will receive an email acknowledging receipt of your application. We will then process your application to open an account within five business days.

If your application is incomplete or if some documents are not in order, we will notify you by email.

Resubmitting your documents

If you have received a notification that your application is incomplete or that some documents are not in order, you must submit the missing documents or resubmit the documents that were not in order.

If you have already been assigned a participant number, you must indicate this when resubmitting your documents.
