A story that began long before 1996
The story of Épargne Placements Québec is part of a much longer history. In 1963, the government began offering Québec Savings Bonds. At the time, bonds were physical paper certificates issued to the holder at the time of purchase. To redeem them, holders would have to present those same pieces of paper. This marked the beginning of a relationship between government savings and Quebecers. It showed a clear desire to help citizens save money while contributing to the funding of Québec government projects.
1996: A major turning point
The creation of Placements Québec, now known as Épargne Placements Québec, marked a turning point in 1996. This transition was accompanied by a major change: the dematerialization of paper bonds and the use of a computerized account registration system.
From that moment on, our aim was to offer Quebecers more modern, more diversified products with competitive returns. We started expanding our product offering beyond Savings Bonds.
From our first website to end-to-end digital services
In 1996, we also launched our first informational website. A few years later, in 2002, we launched our first transactional website, which enabled customers to carry out certain transactions online. Since then, the platform has continued to evolve with the addition of new features and enhanced security.
Today, Épargne Placements Québec offers an end-to-end digital experience, in which customers can become members, purchase products, track their investments, and cash out amounts and interest at maturity, all in a single online space.
A game-changing transformation
Over the past few years, a number of changes have transformed our customer relations. Our physical offices closed in 2019, and our mobile app launched in 2020. Customers quickly adapted: In 2025, online transactions accounted for 84.1% of all purchases.
Modernization inside and out
Our transformation has gone beyond the customer experience. Internally, we’ve also automated a number of administrative processes to make our operations simpler, faster, and more efficient. This modernization is part of our efforts for continuous improvement and desire to simplify procedures for both customers and administrative staff.
