To make a purchase when you are an Épargne Placements Québec participant, you can purchase a savings and retirement product simply by calling one of our investment officers or using the transaction section on our website.

Documents required

Whether you carry out your purchase transaction by telephone or in writing, you must immediately send any document required by Épargne Placements Québec such as:

  • power of attorney;
  • designation of representative or attorney;
  • corporate resolution;
  • savings bonds certificates.

Payment methods

Unless we receive instructions to the contrary from you,

  • purchases are made by electronic funds transfer or by cheque to the order of the Minister of Finance.
  • redemptions are made by electronic funds transfer or by cheque.
  • interest payments are made by electronic funds transfer or by cheque.

To pay or receive money by electronic funds transfer, you must provide your banking information, i.e.:

  • the name of your financial institution;
  • the transit number of the branch concerned; and
  • the number of the account in which the transactions will take place.

In addition, you must send us a specimen personal cheque from your bank account marked “Cancelled” (i.e. a cheque mentioning your name, your account number and your financial institution’s contact information).

Payment by supplier to financial institutions

To help you achieve your savings objectives, you can now transfer funds more quickly to Épargne Placements Québec thanks to the invoice‑payment service offered by your financial institution.

To do so, simply add Épargne Placements Québec as an invoice in your financial institution’s online services. Your reference number corresponds to your membership number.

During the transfer of funds, the amounts are converted to Flexi-Plus Savings in the Investment Savings Account and can then be used to purchase a term product in the account of your choice.

RRSP contribution with currently held products

If you hold Québec savings products that are eligible for transfer, you can use them to contribute to your RRSP.

If you already have an RRSP account with Épargne Placements Québec, the transaction can be carried out directly over the phone or in writing.

If you don’t already have an RRSP account, you can initiate your transaction request by telephone or in writing. A Épargne Placements Québec RRSP application form will be sent to you. All you have to do is sign it and return it to Épargne Placements Québec.

Upon receiving the form, Épargne Placements Québec will complete the transaction.

Rate guarantee*

When a term product such as a Québec Step-up BondFixed-rate Bond,Fixed-rate Green BondDiscount Bond or Sécuri+ Bond is purchased, Épargne Placements Québec guarantees that its customers will obtain the best rate structure for a period of 10 business days starting on the date of receipt of purchase or renewal instructions. For the guarantee to apply, the requisite documents to carry out the transaction must be received within 10 business days. If the interest rates change during that time, you will thus benefit from the most advantageous rate structure.

Épargne Placements Québec also offers a rate guarantee at the time of purchase for transfers of TFSA, RRSP, RRIF, LIRA or LIF funds from another financial institution. In such cases, the rate guarantee centres on the better of two rates, i.e. the rate in effect when the transfer is requested to Épargne Placements Québec or the rate in effect on the date of receipt of the payment. The payment must be received no later than six weeks after the transfer request in order for the guarantee to apply.
