Transfer of registered funds

You can transfer to Épargne Placements Québec registered funds (TFSA, RRSP, RRIF, LIRA, and LIF) held in another financial institution. The transfer will be made between your institution and Épargne Placements Québec and will not in any way affect your contribution room.

A useful tip

Before you request a transfer, ensure that the funds are available at your financial institution. For example, certain investments have fixed terms, others are redeemable under certain conditions, and others are cashable at any time.

Transfers of funds held in a TFSA, an RRSP or an RRIF

You can proceed online as follows Online transactions section > Operations > Purchases > Characteristics and payment > Payment method > T2033 — Transfer of registered funds between institutions. Once you have entered the information requested, you will be directed to the DocuSign application to electronically sign the document. This electronic signature service securely replaces the written signature and is approved by the institutions.

Transfers of funds held in a LIRA or a LIF

You must contact an agent by telephone (see the contact information on the How to reach us page. Have at hand your participant number, the address of your financial institution, and your account number.

N.B.:

Most delivering institutions levy transfer fees on the funds transferred, which can vary. It is important to get information from your delivering institution before making the transfer. You must assume the delivering institution’s transfer fees.
Certain institutions require a guaranteed signature. Épargne Placements Québec must, in this instance, add its seal on the form signed by the customer before sending it to the delivering institution. The customer cannot send the signed form to the institution.

Transfer time

The processing of the request depends on the time the delivering institution takes to produce the cheque and postal processing times. Processing can take up to six weeks and even longer in certain exceptional cases. In the meantime, you can consult your request online through the “Online transactions” section > Summary > Pending transactions.

You will start to accrue interest once Épargne Placements Québec has received the funds. You will receive at that time a transaction confirmation to inform you that the operation has been completed. If you have not already done so, activate email notifications (“Online transactions” > Profile > Notification) and you will be informed once the transfer has been finalized.

Rate guarantee

Épargne Placements Québec also offers a rate guarantee on the purchase of certain products in the context of transfers of registered funds from another financial institution. In such cases, the rate guarantee centres on the better of two rates, i.e., the rate in effect when the request is made to transfer to Épargne Placements Québec or the rate in effect on the date of receipt of the payment.

Act now and take advantage of this offer without delay. The terms and conditions can be modified without notice.
